What sounds do alpacas make?
Alpacas are known as calm and quiet animals, but they do communicate with each other through a range of sounds. These sounds provide insight into their mood, social relationships and overall well-being. By listening carefully, you can learn to understand alpacas better.
Orgling during reproduction
This sound is unique to alpacas and occurs almost exclusively during reproduction. Orgling helps trigger the hormonal response and plays a role in the reproductive process. To visitors it may sound unusual or even comical, but for alpacas it is completely normal behaviour and not a sign of stress or discomfort.
